Who says hippies can stick with something? Eeyore’s Birthday Party has been a great hippy Austin, Texas event since 1963. Well, originally it started for little kids; however it was started the the hippy parents of little kids. It is still magical.

There is no corporate sponsors at the event, mostly because Austin hates corporate sponsors. Corporations
f*ck mess everything up – so f*ck mess you corporations you can’t have Eeyore’s Birthday Party. Non-profits are welcomed to setup booths, because Austin loves non-profits (but really, f*ck mess you corporations).
Eeyore, of course, is a donkey in Winnie-the-Pooh who has a little self-image problem. So, Pooh’s friends threw the donkey an AWESOME birthday party. In the spirit of such a complex work of fiction and Winnie The Pooh, Austin still has the AWESOME birthday party, which features a donkey on a regular basis. (Both in statue and living form)
People bring drums. People dress in costumes. It is fun.
Austin-area non-profit Friends of the Forest, has managed the even since 1974. See! Austin does love non-profits. They continue this task today along with arranging public services (toilets, buses, security, medics) and scheduling live music and family-oriented games and contests. The event is still known to most as a festival oriented towards modern hippies. It now boasts an annual attendance in the thousands.
Wikipedia told me that Seattle does an Eeyore’s festival too. Very cool.
