So, "Seattle Sports" asked a question about playing basketball with back injury:
"Should I workout/play basketball with a lumbar spine injury? So I've asked this question before... but I'm going to add to it. I have had bad Lumbar spine pain the past month and a half. I get numb toes, and leg pain and a burning sensation. It also hurts due to sciatica.
Here's the deal. I am going to the Dr. on Feb 10 and at that point we will come up with a treatment plan.
My question: I have AAU basketball coming up in March... and around may I will start to workout with my Junior College team. Should I workout right now to get in shape even with the pain and numbness? Or should I just wait until Feb 10 and do my treatment and focus on getting in shape for May?"
Well, its obvious that a doctor will have to review the player before the coach lets them back on the team. However, I did have one bit of advice that might help speed the recover from sports related back pain.
"Get a Mueller back brace for $20.00. It will help and if you untuck your t-shirt it is hardly noticeable. The pain left me immediately when I put one on. Here's alink. Its the second item down as found on www.SciaticaBackPainHelp.com :
Get a little book called Top 10 Cures for Sciatica and Back Pain. Its a few bucks and is number 15 in sports medicine on Amazon. It will help."
